Getting the best results

The same model can produce a great cut-out or a messy one depending entirely on the input photo. Here’s what works and what doesn’t.

What works well

  • Clear subject — sharp, in focus.
  • Clear separation between subject and background — a visible edge.
  • Even lighting — no harsh shadows crossing the subject’s outline.
  • Subject fills most of the frame — not a tiny dot in the middle.

What tends to go wrong

  • Background and subject are similar colors — the model can’t find the edge.
  • Lots of fine fly-away hair — strands get clipped or merge with the background.
  • Transparent or translucent objects — glass, sheer fabric, water.
  • Subject is too small in the frame — not enough detail to cut cleanly.

For product photos

Shoot on a solid background — white or a light color. Center the product and let it fill the frame. That alone solves most quality issues.

Picking the right mode

Pair a good photo with the right mode. A person → Body, a product → Product. See The 5 AI modes.

Large images

If your image is over 3 MB or either side is over 2000 px, the system automatically switches to the higher-resolution pipeline. You don’t need to do anything — and it doesn’t cost extra.
